Solar Power as a sustainable energy source

Campbelltown Meals on Wheels is a not-for-profit community based organisation, located an hour and a half from Sydney, NSW. They run their operations from the Ruse Community Hall, where they provide nutritious meals and check on the health and wellbeing of clients.

The organisation recently considered the possibility of using solar to fuel their operations. For a non-profit organisation like Meals on Wheels, community care is a full-time work, as volunteers are always busy preparing food and support for clients. The increase in activity within the organisation meant an increase in electricity usage. Therefore they needed a more sustainable way to use electricity, without any disruption to their work in helping the community.

Choosing an experienced solar installer

As luck would have it, a committee member of Campbelltown Meals on Wheels had previously gotten a solar installation done by RK Solar. Because he was familiar with our level of support and service, he was happy to recommend us for the organisation’s new solar project.

While having a discussion with us, Campbelltown Meals on Wheels highlighted the need to maximise the community hall’s roof space for the best solar output. The roof space was large and it could be fully utilised to generate solar energy for the building. Our experienced solar engineers had the knowledge and expertise to design the installation in a way that will maximise the output of energy production.

Trina Tallmax Solar Panel:
Performance, Reliability & Output

After doing a site inspection and taking technical aspects into consideration, we estimated that the roof could fit about 80 high performance PV modules.

RK Solar suggested the use of Trina Tallmax solar panels, as our experience with these panels allow us to vouch for its reliability, performance and output. The panels have anti-shading performance and lower operating temperature, which allows high energy generation. They also have ensured PID (Potential-induced degradation) resistance thanks to cell process and module material control. This means stronger and more reliable solar panels for uninterrupted solar production.

30kW Sungrow Solar Inverter

We also recommended a 30kW Sungrow solar inverter to support high energy yield. The Sungrow inverters have built-in surge arresters, which help keep your home safe during solar generation. The inverters are built with integrity and have a long lifespan, which means customers don’t need to worry about replacing the inverter for a long time.

Sungrow inverters also come with an online interface that allows App and Web monitoring of your energy production levels.

After the installation was completed, Campbelltown Meals on Wheels could immediately start monitoring their own energy production, consumption and export levels. They could also monitor how well their system was performing and check the amount of savings they’ve made with solar.

As this installation involved a local community centre, RK Solar coordinated with both Campbelltown Meals on Wheels and the Campbelltown City Council to ensure that all safety requirements were met when carrying out the installation.

We take this aspect very seriously because we are a CEC Approved Solar Installer and we must tick all the boxes when it comes to safety of our installed solar systems.

This massive 36kW solar system is currently helping the Ruse Community Hall to generate enough solar energy to sustain the daily operations of Campbelltown Meals on Wheels. This ultimately will help them to reduce reliance on the grid, save on energy bills and allow them to use their extra savings to further help the community.
