Blackouts, also referred to as “power outages,” happen when all electricity is lost. They typically affect a specific location and are brought on by a variety of events, such as storms and floods, heat waves and bushfires, fallen trees, and automobile accidents. Australians are also more at risk of “rolling blackouts” as home and industrial electricity consumption rises and coal-fired facilities close.
