Recently the RK solar team installed a 39.84kW solar system with 25.6kWh batteries.
This is a strata building in a beautiful and affluent neighbourhood of Balmain, NSW.
The strata committee conducted an energy feasibility study through Wattblock with the funding provided by the Inner West Council. The findings of the energy feasibility report suggested by implementing a solar and battery solution there were significant savings to be made. The recommendation was to have a 40kW solar system with 26kWh batteries. The target was to offset and probably eliminate the power consumption of the common areas. The reduction in ever rising electricity bills would help fund further strata projects and maintain this beautiful and large complex.
Strata building can present its own set of challenges when it comes to solar installations. There are certain approvals which you need to take into consideration.
There are multiple stakeholders involved and everybody needs to be satisfied with the project.
That’s why it was important to complete the project in stages and to make sure that it meets the stakeholders requirements.
This project was done in the 3 stages.
1. Pre-installation stage
a. Take all required approvals and ensure all compliance with the laws.
b. Grid connection application submitted to the provider.
c. Identification of the proposed battery location and diagram of the batteries in the same location.
2. Installation stage
a. It includes Solar system installation with all necessary components, such as mounting, solar panels, solar inverters, AC/DC cables, conduits, AC/DC circuit breakers & batteries.
3. Post-installation stage.
a. Solar system commissioning and enabling the online monitoring.
b. Submit all the relevant required documents
The solar system was engineered and designed by the RK Solar team on specifications provided in the energy feasibility report and understanding other site and job requirements.
Our design and solar system used Trina solar panels, Sungrow’s Hybrid inverter and Sungrow’s String inverter and Sungrow lithium battery.
Challenges.
Solar Panel Installation:
Roof Access & Cable run to the meter box were the 2 main challenges. Due to site conditions, we weren’t able to use Scissor lifts or a crane for moving panels to the roof. We used a panel lifter for moving panels to the roof.
The job was completed in 3 days (28th to 30th Dec 22).

1. They come with Dual Glass design which has improved its lifespan. It has excellent fire rating and has excellent resistance to harsh environmental conditions.
2. It comes with the 25 year product warranty and 30 years power warranty.
3. It’s easy to handle because of its low weight and small size.
4. In the first year, its degradation is 1% while the annual degradation is 0.4%. That is possible because of their latest N-Type TOPCon cell technology (named PACO) along with high-density cells and multi-busbars. Which means its output can be 87.4% even after 30 years of use.
