South Sydney High School Installs 80kW Solar in Maroubra NSW

PROJECT SUMMARY

RK Solar was awarded the 80kW tender for South Sydney High School after an extensive process. In their own words ‘We are a solar school‘.

TrinaSolar was chosen for its combination of efficiency and cost effectiveness. It has excellent low-light performance on cloudy days, early morning and late afternoons due to state-of-the-art technologies. Additionally, reliability is ensured by extensive in-house testing that goes way beyond certification standards.

Their solar system will reduce their annual energy bill by 23% yearly. The carbon emissions offset of 103 Tonnes a year is the equivalent of taking 36 cars of the road, which the clean energy produced is equal to powering 580 school computers each year.

Want to do this in your high school? How did it get started?

This project was initiated by James Grimshaw, School Captain 2019, who began with an assignment in 2017 in Elective Geography. This was a Research Action Plan where Waverley Council was invited to do a feasibility study into the potential use of solar energy at the school.

Funding for the South Sydney High School was installation was from a combination of the Solar My School program, and the Clovelly Community Bank.
