RK Solar had the opportunity to take on a very challenging solar installation in Mascot, NSW.
We were approached by the hotel manager, to assist them with a solar installation at their premises. The interesting thing about this hotel was that it already had solar panels from a previous installation. But because of their renovation plans, they needed to free up space which some of the panels took up, and reinstall the solar panels onto a new roof.
This job involved:
While the job sounds easy enough, our engineers and electricians faced a number of obstacles that made this installation quite challenging.
Intense Wind Condition & Limited Moving Space
Firstly, the hotel was located near the coastal area and near the Sydney Airport. This resulted in our technical team battling intense wind conditions while being up on the roof for the installation.
Secondly, we found that the underlying structure of the roof was not sound enough to support the huge array of solar panels. Also, because of the structure of the roof, there was very little room for our team to move freely during the installation. This gave us cause for concern, because being a CEC Approved solar installer meant that safety is the number one priority for us.
Experienced Team Ready to Take on Challenging Installations
In terms of safety, one of the first things we did was to get a structural assessment done to ensure safety of putting the panels there. Based on the professional recommendations, we proceeded with the design and reinstallation of the solar system. We ensured that our team safely managed to bring installation materials to the rooftop with help of a scissor lift, while strictly following Workplace Safety & Health rules.
Maximising Solar Production on Irregular Roof
Our team rewired the entire solar system in order to maximise solar energy production and to account for shading that occurs in certain section of the roof. We then connected the entire array of panels to 5 of the hotel’s Fronius solar inverters. Thanks the its SuperFlex Design, the Fronius inverters are a great addition to solar panels installed on irregularly shaped or different roof orientations.
The result? A happy customer and a happy hotel.
At the end of the day, regardless of how challenging a solar installation can be, our team at RK Solar & Consulting aim to come together and get it done for our customers. And we’re glad to have helped our happy hotel client in Mascot go further with solar.
