How Apartment Solar Works?
Many people think solar energy is only for houses, but thanks to advanced solar-sharing technology, apartment buildings can now distribute solar power efficiently among residents.
One of the best solutions is SolShare technology, which allows multiple apartments in a building to access power from a single rooftop solar system. This means all residents can enjoy the benefits of clean energy, even in multi-unit buildings.
How does SolShare Work?
SolShare is an Australian-made smart technology that enables apartment buildings to share solar energy efficiently.
Energy Sharing: SolShare splits the energy generated by the rooftop solar panels and distributes it fairly among the apartments over the month.
Maximised Energy Use: The system ensures that as much solar energy as possible is consumed within the building, reducing waste and excess power being sent back to the grid
Smart Distribution: Using an advanced algorithm, SolShare determines where and when to send energy based on demand, ensuring maximum savings.
Real-Time Monitoring: Residents can track their energy usage, solar allocation, and savings via the SolCentre portal, allowing them to optimise their electricity consumption.
The NSW Government is offering up to 50% matched funding for apartment buildings to install solar panels. This initiative, called the Solar for Apartment Residents Program, helps apartment owners and renters save money on their electricity bills while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
$25 million in total funding is available.
Up to $150,000 per project for apartment buildings and other multi-unit dwellings.
Financial support comes from both the Australian Government and NSW Government.
Only owners corporations or strata managers can apply for the grant. To be eligible, applicants must be:
A residential owners corporation managing a strata scheme under the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015.
A strata managing agent, as outlined in the same act, with authorisation from the owners corporation.
Note: Individual apartment residents cannot apply. If you are a resident, share this information with your owners corporation or strata manager and encourage them to apply.
The application process has two stages:
Stage 1: Submit an expression of interest to check eligibility.
Stage 2: Submit a full application based on installation quotes. A sustainability infrastructure resolution must be passed at a strata meeting before submission.
Grant funding is paid in three instalments:
1. 20% once the funding agreement is signed.
2. 40% when 50% of solar panels are installed.
3. 40% after the installation is completed and final reporting is provided.
Deadline: Applications close 5 PM, 30 March 2026, or earlier if funds are fully allocated.
