NSW Schools Cut Costs with 120kW Solar Power by RK Solar

Why We Are Committed to Sustainability in Education

At RK Solar & Consulting Services, we believe education is not just about classrooms and books, it’s also about creating real opportunities for a better future. Schools are where knowledge is built, and they are also the perfect place to demonstrate how practical solutions like renewable energy can make a lasting difference.

What We Have Achieved So Far – Delivering Clean Energy to Schools Across NSW

We are proud to announce the successful completion of 120kW of solar installations across schools in New South Wales. These projects go beyond powering buildings, they provide long-term savings on electricity costs, reduce environmental impact, and give students a direct view of how clean energy works in action.

By installing solar, schools can redirect valuable funds back into teaching and resources, while also showing students the importance of innovation and sustainability in everyday life.

This is about more than energy, it’s about helping schools operate smarter, more efficiently, and with a clear focus on the future.

Delivering Sustainable Energy for Schools

As part of the NSW Department of Education’s initiative to integrate renewable energy into schools, RK Solar has partnered with a Perth-based solar company to deliver two significant projects. These installations are a step toward reducing the carbon footprint of educational institutions and providing long-term energy savings.

90kW Solar Installation at Chatham High School in Taree, New South Wales

90 Kw Solar System Installed At Chatham High School, Taree Nsw, Providing Clean, Sustainable Energy For The School
Energy Balance System Showing Daily Consumption, External And Internal Power Supply, Daily Yield, And Overall Power Usage

Chatham High School, located in the heart of New South Wales, now benefits from a 90kW solar system, which will significantly reduce energy costs and enhance sustainability within the school.

This system is designed to generate over 107,000 kWh of clean electricity annually, significantly offsetting the school’s energy bills. By utilising solar energy, the school will reduce its reliance on the grid, lowering utility expenses and redirecting savings into more important resources for students and teachers.

The system at Chatham High School saves money and helps reduce the school’s carbon footprint by using clean, renewable energy. It makes the school more energy-efficient, with lasting benefits for years to come, while also reducing its impact on the environment.

30kW Solar Installation at Taree High School in Taree, New South Wales

Taree High School In Nsw Has A 30 Kw Solar System Generating 36,350 Kwh Annually, Cutting Costs And Supporting Sustainability

Taree High School has installed a 30kW solar system, designed to provide clean, renewable energy to the school while reducing costs associated with energy consumption.

This installation will generate over 36,350 kWh of electricity annually, helping the school reduce its energy bills and contribute to the reduction of its environmental impact. The savings generated from the solar energy will help Taree High School invest in better facilities and educational tools, benefitting both students and the local community.

In addition to savings, this system helps ensure that the school’s energy needs are met efficiently. Taree High School’s move to solar reflects its commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and reducing its environmental impact.

By utilising solar energy, both schools will save thousands of dollars in energy bills, allowing these funds to be reinvested into education, facilities, and more important initiatives that benefit students and staff.

Both systems will also play a crucial role in achieving the NSW Department of Education’s sustainability goals, positioning these schools as leaders in environmental responsibility and setting a positive example for other schools and institutions across the state.

Overcoming Installation Challenges with Expertise and Care

Every school environment presents its own unique set of challenges, and Chatham High School was no exception. When we were tasked with installing a solar power system on the school’s premises, we encountered a number of complexities that required not only technical expertise but also careful planning and coordination. The property’s three-story roof posed a significant challenge, especially when combined with the uneven sloping ground levels, which made it difficult for equipment and installation teams to access the site.

However, rather than seeing these factors as obstacles, our experienced operations and installation team approached the project with creative solutions in mind. Through detailed planning and engineering assessments, we developed a strategy that ensured the system could be installed safely and efficiently, all while maintaining the highest standards of quality. Our team’s expertise allowed us to adapt to the physical challenges of the site, ensuring the solar panels were securely installed while minimising any disruptions.

We worked closely with the NSW Asset Management Coordinator and the school principals to establish a comprehensive timeline that would accommodate the school’s schedule. Knowing the importance of minimising any potential disruptions to the daily activities of students and staff, we strategically planned our installations during weekends and school holidays. This approach allowed the system to be installed without interrupting the learning environment or posing risks to students and staff.

Additionally, safety was always our top priority. The worksite was thoroughly assessed to ensure that all safety protocols were in place, protecting not only our team members but also the school community. From site-specific risk assessments to ensuring the proper use of protective equipment and tools, every detail was carefully considered to create a secure environment during the installation process.

With careful planning, a clear understanding of the challenges, and a strong focus on safety, the installation at Chatham High School was completed on time, smoothly, and to a high standard. Now, the school can enjoy the benefits of clean, renewable energy for years to come.

How We Are Helping Schools with Reliable, Sustainable Solar Solutions

For both Chatham and Taree High School, RK Solar carefully selected the best equipment available, ensuring optimal performance and long-term reliability.

Canadian Solar 340W Split-Cell Panels with half-cell technology were chosen for their superior shading tolerance and efficiency. This technology enhances the panels’ ability to produce electricity even in partially shaded environments, making them ideal for locations with varying light conditions.

SMA Inverters (Core 1 – 50kW and TRIPOWER – 25kW) were selected due to their outstanding global reputation for reliability, safety, and intelligent energy management. These inverters help optimise energy production, monitor system performance, and ensure safe operation, offering real-time data on energy consumption and solar generation.

Over 97% of the electricity generated by the system is consumed onsite, significantly reducing the need to purchase power from the grid.

More than 60% of the schools’ total daily energy requirements are met through clean, renewable solar power, reducing their reliance on traditional energy sources.

With a combined annual production of 143,350 kWh of clean, renewable energy, these systems are setting a new standard in sustainable energy for educational institutions.

By investing in solar, these schools are not only saving on energy costs but also playing an active role in building a more sustainable future.

Our Growing Impact – Expanding Solar Solutions Across the Education Sector

These two projects are just the beginning of RK Solar’s growing impact in the education sector. We are proud to have already secured additional school installations, with exciting projects in the pipeline, including –

Caringbah – 93kW

South Sydney – 80kW

Work on these projects is scheduled to commence in October, and we are committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable solar solutions that will benefit both the schools and their communities.

Through the successful scaling of projects like these, RK Solar is not only helping schools significantly reduce their energy costs, but also promoting sustainability in education across New South Wales. By empowering schools with clean, renewable energy, we are supporting them in becoming more energy-independent while lowering their carbon footprint.

As we continue to expand, we remain dedicated to driving positive change in the education sector, making sure that the next generation has access to greener, more cost-effective learning environments.
