NSW Electric Vehicle Rebate – How Solar Energy Can Help
NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy
As part of the Electric Vehicle Strategy, the NSW Government is introducing a $500 million package to drive the uptake of electric vehicles in the state. From 1st September 2021, the NSW Government will provide rebates of $3000 for the first 25,000 electric vehicles (EV) that are sold under $68,750. The state government will also remove stamp duty from EV purchases under $78,000. These strategies will help position NSW to be the most affordable state in Australia to own an electric vehicle.
According to NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean, “with new cars staying on the road 15 years on average, the vast majority of new cars sold in NSW need to be electric vehicles by 2035 to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.”
Electric Vehicles & Solar Power
Solar energy plays an important role in NSW’s transition away from coal and fossil fuels. In 2020, NSW had the 2nd highest number of photovoltaic installations in Australia. We are seeing a growing number of NSW homes transition to an “all-green” lifestyle, by combining the use of solar panels and solar batteries to fully power their homes. Now with the increasing uptake of electric vehicles, people can combine work, travel, and living with the power of green energy.
However, it is important to remember that carbon emissions are not automatically offset just by owning an electric vehicle. According to Carbon Brief, “while no greenhouse gas emissions directly come from EVs, they run on electricity that is, in large part, still produced from fossil fuels in many parts of the world.”
So, in order to maximise the benefits of owning an electric vehicle, we recommend combining it with a quality solar system and solar battery storage.
Charge Your Electric Car With Solar Energy & Save Money
Solar energy is a cost-friendly and sustainable way to charge your electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles in Australia use a lithium-ion battery, which is similar to the technology found in a lot of solar batteries. Charge your electric car by plugging it into a charger at home, when it is bright and sunny outside. With a good amount of sunlight, your solar panels can generate enough energy to fully charge your EV, without having to import from the grid. This means you save money by having lower electricity bills.
But keep in mind that these savings can only occur when the amount of solar energy generated is equal to or more than what is used at home. So, it is vital to understand your home energy usage needs and get a solar system that can fully support that. Achieve energy independence by combining your electric vehicles with quality solar brands like Trina, REC, Enphase & Tesla.
