Here Is What You Need to Know:

If you have been putting off solar or a home battery because of the upfront cost, the NSW Government has just made it a whole lot easier. The $557 million Home Energy Saver program is now live. Eligible NSW households can access zero-interest loans of up to $15,000 to cover the cost of energy-saving upgrades.
This is not a future announcement. It is available right now.

What Is the NSW Home Energy Saver Program?

The Home Energy Saver program is a NSW Government initiative designed to help households afford the energy upgrades that reduce power bills without having to pay for everything upfront.

Eligible upgrades include:

* Rooftop solar panels
* Home battery storage
* Insulation
* Reverse-cycle air conditioning
* Switchboard upgrades
* Ceiling fans
* Draught-proofing

Zero-interest loans are available now. Targeted discounts are coming later in 2026.

How Much Can I Save?

The program offers two types of support:

Zero-Interest Loan of up to $15,000, repaid over 10 years with no interest charged. Available now to households with a combined taxable income of up to $210,000. This is a $480 million government commitment expected to benefit more than 32,000 households.

Targeted Discount of up to $4,000, available later in 2026 to households with a combined annual income of up to $80,000, or eligible concession card holders. This is a separate $77 million commitment.

Tip: If you qualify for both, apply for the discount first, then use the loan to cover the remaining amount. You can stack them on a single upgrade.

Who Is Eligible?

Zero-interest loan

* NSW households with a combined taxable income of up to $210,000
* Available from today

Targeted discount

* Households earning up to $80,000 per year combined, or eligible concession card holders
* Available later in 2026

Renters are also eligible for discounts, provided upgrades are made with the landlord’s permission.

Can I Combine the Loan and the Discount?

Yes and you should.

If your household qualifies for both, you can apply for the discount first to bring the cost down, then use a zero-interest loan to cover whatever remains. Both can be applied to a single upgrade, giving you the maximum benefit from the program.

Why Should You Act Now?

More than half of all NSW homes already have rooftop solar. And 13,000 new home batteries are being installed across the state every single month.

The upfront cost has been the one thing stopping most households from making the switch. This program removes that barrier but funding is not unlimited. Acting early means:

* First access to available loan funds
* More time to plan and get quotes
* Installation before peak demand builds up

The sooner you move, the better your position.
