We recently completed a SunPower’s Maxeon 5 AC solar panel installation for our customer in Church Point. These solar panels are integrated with Enphase microinverters, giving customers a powerful system with maximised performance.

What are SunPower Maxeon 5 AC solar panels?

What are Enphase Microinverters?

A microinverter is essentially a mini-inverter that is attached to the back of your solar panel. Each SunPower Maxeon 5 AC module are integrated with Enphase microinverters. Like string inverters, microinverters convert direct current to alternate current that is usable by the appliance at your home. However, the conversion occurs at the panel level instead of a centralised location (such as the string inverter).

Advantages of Enphase microinverters

  • Better performance in shade:
    In a string installation, solar panels are linked together in a series. Any disruption such as shade, damage, or dirt on a single panel could impact the performance of the other panels in the series. But in a microinverters system, this is not the case. The panels can work independently from the rest in the array. Your solar system will continue generating and maximising solar power output without interruption.
  • Flexibility & Improved yield:
    Because of their function in a parallel circuit, microinverters are perfect for installation on rooftops that are prone to shade. Microinverters also have an advantage over string inverters because they are able to improve the yield of solar energy the panels are producing. Each solar panel has a variation of currents flowing through them. In a string configuration, the current is capped by the least producing panel. While with microinverters, each panel is performing independently of the other.
  • 24/7 Real-Time Data on Solar System Performance
    Enphase microinverters system owners will have access to the Enphase Enlighten platform. This solar monitoring platform allows users to track energy production, monitor the system’s health and gain a better insight into their energy usage patterns.  
  • Safety features:
    A microinverters system operates at a much lower voltage than a solar system with a string inverter. A string inverter system typically operates at around 600V DC, while a system with microinverters run at about a third of that voltage.
    Enphase microinverters are Rapid Shut Down compliant and don’t require any additional hardware. Rapid shutdown quickly shuts down your solar system to reduce the risk of shock hazards during emergencies.
