NSW Battery Discount Ends on 30 June 2025
Here is What You Need to Know –
If you are planning to install a solar battery in NSW, now is the time to act. The NSW battery rebate program is set to end on Monday 30 June 2025.
From Tuesday 1 July 2025, this installation discount will no longer be available and cannot be combined with the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program which starts the same day.
New Incentives from 1 July 2025
While the current NSW battery discount will end, the NSW Government’s incentive for connecting your battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) will nearly double starting 1 July 2025. Even better, this VPP incentive can be combined with the new federal battery rebate, giving you more ways to save.

What Is the Federal Solar Battery Rebate?
The 2025 Federal Solar Battery Rebate is a government-supported program that helps Australians get solar batteries for their homes or businesses. It allows you to store solar energy, use less grid power, and lower your electricity bills.

When Can I Install My Battery?
You can install your battery now – even before July 1, 2025.
To qualify for the rebate –
The battery must be switched on after July 1, 2025
You can install it now and activate it later
This means you don’t need to wait to book your installation.
How Much Is the Solar Battery Rebate Worth?
The rebate is based on the number of Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) your battery system qualifies for.
Around 9.3 STCs per kWh of usable battery capacity
For a 50kWh battery, that could mean a rebate of up to $18,000
The rebate amount reduces every year on January 1st
Tip – Install your battery soon to lock in a higher rebate amount.
How Does the Rebate Scheme Work?
Here is how the rebate will work –
It’s government-funded by purchasing eligible STCs
Batteries must be connected to solar panels
If your system is connected to the grid, it must be VPP-enabled (Virtual Power Plant compatible)
Who Is Eligible for the Solar Battery Rebate?
The rebate is available to –
All Australian households that already have solar panels
Businesses with solar systems
You can install up to a 100kWh battery, but rebates apply between 5kWh and 50kWh
Only one rebate per household
Can I Claim Both Federal and State Rebates?
The good news? You can stack the Cheaper Home Batteries Program with state-level incentives, such as the NSW VPP Incentive, for even greater savings.
